This research seeks to determine the relationship between the workforce/staffing of state health agencies and state level community health outcomes. This study uses workforce trends from Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) profile data 2007 and 2010 and contemporaneous health outcome data from the America's Health Rankings (AHR) controlling for state health department structure (centralized/de-centralized) and different capacity variables (governance, role of state health agencies, provision of services). Appropriate statistical techniques, including ANOVA and regression, will be applied to determine the relationships between these variables. This research has not been completed. This study will seek to determine if workforce trends decreased in state health agencies overtime from 2007 to 2010. Additionally, this may provide insight into staffing mixtures that may lead to optimal health outcomes.
