Elena Ong, PHN, SM , Ong & Associates, Los Angeles, CA
On March 23, and March 30, 2010, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act and the Education & Healthcare Reconciliation Act. As a result, millions more Americans will have health insurance. The purpose of producing the video was to find out "What the Affordable Care Act Means to Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islanders" and empower 16 million AA NHPIs (about 2 million uninsured and 14 million under-insured and insured) who could benefit from the Act. This is a diverse community, of many cultures and many languages. So the first video features tv personality Yul Kwon and a diverse range of prominent leaders from respected organizations in the AA NHPI community in a 10 minute PSA. The second video features Yul Kwon in a 2 minute Korean-subtitled PSA. The third video features health educator Julietta KiJeong Han in a 3-minute Korean-language video. The goal of the project is to inspire AA NHPIs to use www.healthcare.gov and take advantage of the non-profit and/or small business health care tax credits that will make health care more affordable for their families/community, and inspire others to develop in-language and in-culture 1-2 minute PSAs what will resonate with each of the different AA NHPI groups, as not all groups are English-literate, English-speaking, bi-literate and/or bilingual.
