251781 Half way point: The US Global Health Initiative

In 2009, President Obama launched a Global Health Initiative (GHI) to improve health outcomes by strengthening health systems in low-income countries, and integrating programs to improve health by addressing infectious disease, nutrition, maternal and child health, and clean water. Through the GHI, the United States' global health and development investments would reach $63 billion over six years. 2012 is the half way point for the GHI. Panelists from the federal government, private sector and NGOs will discuss implications for American public health professionals, key policy areas related to the GHI as well as opportunities to engage and shape future directions.
