Shannon Fleg, MS , Native Health Initiative, Diné Nation, Albuquerque, NM
The Native Health Initiative is a partnership to address health inequities through loving service, taking an approach to improving health that is based on Indigenous values and building community capacity for change. Now in its seventh year, NHI has two partnerships (NC, NM/AZ) that work to improve health through youth empowerment, sustainable health projects, and community-driven education of health professions students. Key findings from our work include the importance of the process in building community health programs, the effectiveness of love as a funding source for addressing health inequities, and the need for more asset-oriented approaches to working with youth and Indigenous communities to improve health.

Learning Objectives:
1) Describe a novel approach to addressing health inequities, grounded in Indigenous value 2) Identify important principles for working with Indigenous populations 3) Explore love as a method and mechanism for creating social change
