One of the entities that won AHRQ funds to promote academic detailing is the National Resource Center for Academic Detailing (NaRCAD), based at the Harvard Medical School. AHRQ funds for NaRCAD are not for conducting research on academic detailing nor to provide academic detailing itself, but to help health plans around the country initiate their own programs. To that end, they are developing materials on prescribing for diabetes. They are also training academic detailers for health plans. Further, they are meeting with health plans across the country and providing them with analysis of their prescription drug spending with planning for their own academic detailing programs. This presentation will describe in detail how NaRCAD is reaching out to plans and how it is helping them to initiate academic detailing programs.
