253983 Different Setting, Different Care: Integrating Prevention and Clinical Care in School-based Health Centers

Tuesday, November 1, 2011: 10:30 AM

Serena Clayton, PhD , California School Health Centers Association, Oakland, CA
Clayton provides several descriptive and promising examples of a range of programs and services offered by school-based health centers in California that have integrated clinical care and services with public health concepts. Centers are providing primary and public health programs that focus on obesity prevention and improved access to healthy food in schools for example. They are providing mental health services while changing the school climate for improved race relations between students and faculty and implementing anti-bullying campaigns. Asthma management offers a special opportunity to integrate public health with clinical care.
