Medicare claims data can be used to examine operative procedure length on a vast scale. Recent work has shown disparities in procedure length by patient race, with minority and low-income patients experiencing longer operative times. This is explored using both regression methods and multivariate matching. Extensions to hospital acquired infections will be discussed.
