Sari Siegel, PhD , Health Research Practice, IMPAQ International, Columbia, MD
As patient safety efforts continue to expand in the nation's hospitals and healthcare systems, these organizations have never been more vigilant against healthcare-associated infections (HAI). Health care organizations are participating in campaigns, like Partnership for Patients, in record numbers. Likewise, disparities reduction is now widely regarded as a critical goal of health care organizations. However, there has been little research in the area of racial/ethnic/geographic disparities in HAI rates. This discussion will present the results of a literature review and environmental scan on the topic, identifying gaps in the knowledge base and suggested directions for future research.

Learning Objectives:
1. To identify gaps in the knowledge base around disparities in HAI. 2. To formulate research questions to address such gaps.
