Today, healthcare is increasingly provided by multi-disciplinary teams of people, yet their training is siloed, often focusing on individual practitioner responsibilities. TeamSTEPPS™ provides an evidence-based set of tools to strengthen the capacity of healthcare providers to partner more effectively as part of a team to ensure safe, high quality patient care. This presentation will detail how the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, the largest municipal healthcare system in the nation, embedded TeamSTEPPS™ as a core component of its patient safety program to increase safety and prevent patient harm by improving practitioner teamwork and communication skills.

Learning Objectives:
Describe TeamSTEPPS™, an evidence-based patient safety method that has the potential for significantly reducing the number and severity of harmful events. Discuss the TeamSTEPPS™ implementation strategies and program outcomes of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.
