I have been asked to be a discussant for this presentation on the topic of leadership development for community health improvement due to my background and experience in public health leadership development and community health improvement. I will speak about my KPHLI experience, how leadership training has contributed to my previous work at the community level by engaging communities to address physical and social environmental injustice, and how the KPHLI experience contributes to my continued commitment to Social Justice in my new position at the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Identify opportunities for leadership development in their region and what they offer. Increase their understanding of the role of leadership development programs in strengthening individual skills and abilities and health system’s capacity. Gain insight into leadership challenges in shifting paradigms in public health. Develop a better understanding of the leadership skills, strategies and motivators needed to drive social change, health system transformation and engage the community.
