4275.0 Mental health issues and women’s rights

Women and girls of all ages, and in various settings around the world, are at risk for experiencing a range of negative influences on their mental health and well being. This session will include several sessions exploring physical and social factors, including gender relations, that impact women's mental health. The first presentation in this session will address the role of adolescent dating violence on mental health. Another presentation will consider the impact of trauma on rights and well-being of women and girls throughout their lives. Considering the impact of specific physical settings, loneliness and adjustment among incarcerated women will be described. Finally, an international perspective on women's rights and mental health will be presented with considertation of women's experience in India. Overall, this session will detail the importance of gender realtions and women's rights on the mental health of women and girls, with consideration of several specific physical and social settings.
