This session will focus on the epidemiology of obesity and nutrition. Specific talks will include a thirty year trend analysis of overweight and obesity in Dutch children; breastfeeding and the development of childhood obesity from grades 1 through 6; associations of built food environment with dietary intake among youth with diabetes; change in body size during early adulthood and prevalence of diabetes mellitus; and, gender and racial differences in sleep and obesity.
Session Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, the learner (attendee) will be able to: 1. Discuss trends in overweight and obesity in Dutch children; 2. Describe the relationship between breastfeeding and the development of childhood obesity from grades 1 through 6; 3. Understand the associations of built food environment with dietary intake among youth with diabetes; 4. Articulate how change in body size during early adulthood and prevalence of diabetes mellitus; 5. Discuss gender and racial differences in sleep and obesity.
