Statement of Purpose and Institute Overview: The purpose of the Global Health Institute is to assist public health students and emerging leaders in developing countries to hone their leadership skills to effectively address global public health concerns. The Institute will help participants make strong connections between educational concepts and practical “on the job” implications in an international context. Upholding APHA’s commitment to global heath, the course will focus on strengthening the public health workforce, working to equip rising professionals with the skills and knowledge base to work on global issues both domestically, and abroad. This course will also provide a forum for the exploration of new paradigms, and novel ways of approaching some of the complex and long-lasting issues related to improving public health globally.
Session Objectives: 1. Define the components of effective Global Health leadership 2. Discuss global public health workforce needs 3. Describe practical careers and opportunities in global health 4. Identify linkages among global health research, policy and practice.
