This session describes strategies for integrating mental health and other public health and social services, including jail services, healthcare referral, and mental health services for caregivers of individuals with chronic disease. Strategies include community-based participatory research, patient screening and general staff training.
Session Objectives: Identify the process through which a mental health curriculum was chosen and programmatic training conducted for jail staff. Describe strategies to screen and refer pregnant women for mental health care Propose innovative ways in which a community based participatory research approach can be used to explore inequities around mental health as well as collaboratively develop interventions, with special focus on community-academic partnerships. Discuss the needs and supports required by familial/informal caregivers to advanced HIV/AIDS patients.
