The 2011 P. Ellen Parsons session reviews public policy issues of critical importance to public health: debates on the federal budget and on Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security; and reproductive rights. This annual session honors and memorializes the life of P. Ellen Parsons, a scientific researcher and a passionate and humorous advocate, and a leader in this session's APHA sponsors: Medical Care Section, Women's Caucus, Spirit of 1848 Caucus, and Women's Caucus.
Session Objectives: Identify threats to major U.S. social insurance programs - Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security - and to reproductive health. Discuss how the Congressional Progressive Caucus and other policy makers are responding to these threats Evaluate strategies for advancing reproductive rights and justice.
