CALL FOR ABSTRACTS — 140th APHA Annual Meeting

Theme: Prevention and Wellness Across the Lifespan

Family Violence Prevention Forum

The Family Violence Prevention Forum of the American Public Health Association (APHA-FVPF) invites abstracts for individual paper presentations and poster sessions presentation at the 140th, 2012 Annual Meeting. Topics related to this year's theme, "Pevention and Wellness Across the Lifespan" and in all areas are related to family violence prevention will receive high priority. Our Forum acknowledges family violence undermines the core fabric of “Community” and significantly impacts the health and well being of those who are a part. In this call, special consideration will be given to proposals that attend to how family violence and or interventions to address it considers community in creating healthy members. Submissions should link current research and interventions to the theme of healthy communities promote healthy minds and bodies. The discussion of “Pevention and Wellness Across the Lifespan” can also integrate any of the following topics:
  • Child, Adult, and/or Elder Abuse
  • Community Interventions focused on Perpetrators of Family Violence
  • Evolving Family Violence Prevention Policy and its impact Locally, Nationally, & Internationally
  • Expanding the Evidence Base: Status of Current Research
  • Family Violence Prevention with Under-served communities
This Call for Abstracts for the APHA-FVPF scientific sessions requests papers that present: Original empirical work (e.g. scientific studies, program evaluations, or organizational case studies), or noteworthy advances in methodology or analysis; Innovative integrative scholarship and scientific work; Programmatic reports of significant research infrastructure development; Programmatic reports of health professions curricular development or educational research; Substantive policy analyses (e.g. systems-wide assessments or policy case-studies); Informative reports on program or project management and development; Other similarly noteworthy, innovative, or informative reports and studies. Joint sessions and sessions co-sponsored with other sections, special interest groups, caucuses, and forums are encouraged. Abstracts will be selected through a rated review process according to significance, timeliness, and overall quality. An author's paper may not have been presented or published prior to its presentation at the Annual Meeting. The abstract is limited to 250 words. Continuing Education Credit

APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses and health educators at its annual meeting. Please complete all required information when submitting an abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to keep their licenses and credentials. For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter must provide: 1) an abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names 2) at least one MEASURABLE objective (to understand or to learn are not measurable objectives).

Examples of Acceptable Measurable Action Words: Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define or List. 3) A signed Conflict of Interest form with a relevant qualification statement.
