"Evaluating innovative models for integrating primary care, mental health and substance use services"

As a prelude to moving toward healthcare reform and a level of service integration yet to be achieved, through the Mental Health Services Act Innovation program, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health has chosen three distinct approaches to providing integrated mental health, primary care and substance use services that include an Integrated Mobile Health Team, Integrated Clinic Model and an Integrated Services Management Model that provides integrated culturally relevant care to 5 different ethnic communities within LA County. These programs are being evaluated according to their level of integrated services, how effectively they treat mental health, specific primary care conditions and substance abuse. Other indicators of success include cost effectiveness, community satisfaction, client satisfaction and specific client-level quality of life indictators.

The presentation will provide an overview of the service models, the evaluation approach and how the outcome data is used to enhance quality of service and learning through quarterly learning networks. Ultimately, the data should inform the system of integrated care within Los Angeles County.
