Social media platforms like Facebook,Twitter and YouTube changed the way in which we communicate. This new type of communication is becoming a growing trend around the world, and dental public health organizations, institutions, agencies and individual professionals are using social media in areas like epidemiology, health promotion, and policy change. In addition, it is a new way of engaging target populations to get a better understanding of specific public oral health concerns. This adoption reflects the changes in technology and communication systems over the years. These platforms are used by millions of people who interact and engage with other users every day and as a result, the public is now more informed that ever before.Facebook and Twitter have the innate ability to communicate information in real time,as well as link groups of people together around common issues, while YouTube provides videos with precise information on current health issues to the public. This paper will provide an overview of the use of social media in dental public health. It will accomplish this by mentioning how these platforms are used to deliver dental public health programs, products, and information as well as provide awareness, educate diverse audiences, and send messages to particular viewers through public engagement by posting high-quality interactive content. Furthermore, this paper will address ethical concerns associated with social media, and provide recommendations for public health organizations, agencies and professionals whose goal will be to provide a better understanding of public health issues through the use of this evolving form of communication.
