Issues More people are self identifying as transgender or gender variant and seek out healthcare services in public healthcare settings. Trans people continue to struggle with obtaining good, quality healthcare services. Medical schools failure to include transgender health topics in teaching curricula for their medical students complicates access to care. Well-meaning providers often struggle or are uncomfortable asking basic questions or conducting routine physical exams on trans bodies.

Description This session will provide basic information about trans healthcare issues and help build awareness and clinical knowledge for healthcare providers who are interested in exploring methods for delivering competent care and treatment for trans patients.

Lessons Learned The Center of Excellence for Transgender Health has developed Primary Care Protocols, Best Practices and other capacity building tools that together help lay out strategies for providers and other public health professionals and step by step instruction on culturally responsive care for trans patients.

Administer health education strategies, interventions and programs
