264263 Case for school nursing: Show me the evidenceMonday, October 29, 2012
: 12:30 PM - 12:45 PM
School nurses provide consistent comprehesive care for school aged students. However, the effectiveness of school nursing interventions on child health outcomes is difficult to measure. The quantity, intensity and quality of school nursing care is not collected as part of any national data set. Since school nurses are not reimbursed for the care they provide, they are part of the hidden health care system (Lear, 2007). This session will review the evidence that is available in the literature of the effectiveness of school nursing on child health outcomes. School nurse impact on health promotion, disease prevention and case management of chronic conditions will be detailed. Future school health research must fill the gaps in the literature on the effectiveness of population health care provided in the school setting.
