265104 Safe Routes To School Workshops as a Catalyst to Sustainable Safe Routes To School ProgramTuesday, October 30, 2012
Safe Routes to School programs are brilliantly designed to increase the number of children walking and bicycling to school using critical components known as the 5 E's (Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Enforcement, and Evaluation.) Fostering relationships with individuals who represent and bring these essential facets to the community is key to the success of the program.
This presentation will discuss how Riverside County is creating innovative partnerships and will provide participants with the tools for engaging the community, organizations, and city leadership to create a sustainable and effective Safe Rotues To School program; how the Workshop model has leveraged hundreds of thousands of dollars in infrastructure improvements, in-kind contributions, and donations from multiple public and private sectors. Presenters will describe their efforts to convene multidisciplinary partnerships and will share success stories that are replicable for other communities, as well as lessons learned.
