Background: Healthy People 2020 provides science-based, 10-year national objectives for improving the health. For 3 decades, Healthy People has established benchmarks and monitored progress over time to: encourage collaborations across communities and sectors; empower individuals to make informed health decisions; and quantifiably measure the impact of prevention activities. With this decade, HP 2020 has grown to include some 1,200 specific objectives. Historically, the National Center for Health Statistics has hosted a publicly available online database unique to Healthy People to house data for the national objectives. This decade the number of data elements needing to be displayed and accessible to the public has increased markedly. Leveraging limited resources, HHS Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion collaborated with NCHS in developing and integrating the HP 2020 objectives into the Health Indicators Warehouse (HIW). As a centralized data repository of publicly available health indicators from multiple sources, the HIW provides additional visibility for HP 2020, with potential to reach new and non-traditional users. Objectives/Purpose: This presentation will explain HP 2020 objective selection, development of the user-tested healthypeople.gov website, and demonstrate how healthypeople.gov links to HIW to provide decision support to users via customizable charts, graphs and other resources. Methods: By providing its comprehensive set of objectives and resources in online formats, HP 2020 expands its capability to provide tools and resources states, localities, businesses and other users need to frame their own health improvement plans. HP 2020 marks the first time the objectives have been available solely online. Results: This project demonstrates how user-friendly online presentation of data, resources and tools can increase the reach and impact of a well-established initiative. Discussion/Conclusions: Examples from the two linked websites will demonstrate the benefits of investing in cost-conserving, user-tested online resources and tools to yield greater impact and efficiency in information delivery.
