Saturday, October 27, 2012 : 9:00 AM - 10:20 AM

Kathlynn Northrup-Snyder, PhD, RN, CNS , Community Health Concepts, Dallas, OR
The purpose of this activity is to focus attention on the area(s) where the practitioner can facilitate behavior change and where MI may be effective. This individualized time allows the participant to explore barriers and potentials for facilitating behavior change as well as assess the group's overall needs to understand foundational behavior change theory and change process. A dynamic skill practice time and overview will engage individuals in different methods to assess change readiness, factors for change, and methods to identify and facilitated change in both less-motivated and motivated clients. Specific field/office tools will be provided and used to practice these skills. These tools were developed using behavior theory and have been trialed by over 500 people.

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify client behavior change examples within individual practice. 2. Differentiate between models of behavior change and their application to patient readiness to change. 3. Compare characteristics of “ready” clients to “not ready” clients.
