The purpose of this presentation is to highlight the relevant research in the area of Environmental Justice and Public Health and utilize this as a framework to teach selected competencies from the report in the areas of knowledge, attitudes and practice skills. Examples from Hurricane Katrina and the Gulf Oil Spill will be highlighted in this session.

Discuss two examples of the relevance of cultural competence in the public health response to the Gulf Oil Spill.
Analyze medical and public health culturally appropriate responses for responding to environmental justice issues in the US.
