This presentation will highlight the research on cancer disparities among select populations in the United States and the importance of culturally competent training and education to eliminate these disparities. Case examples will be utilized to illustrate the competencies in the report.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I served as Co-Chair of the AAMC/ASPH joint expert panel on cultural competence and Co-Author of the Cultural Competence Education in Medicine and Public Health that serves as the framework for this learning institute. I am an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Dean for Student Affairs, and have published numerous articles in the area of health care disparities and cultural competence and a grant funded to explore cultural competence education.
