The International Union, United Automobile Workers (UAW) will conduct a workshop on the use of an incident investigation method developed by Swedish occupational researchers Kjellan and Larsen. The method thoroughly examines physical/technical, organizational/economic, and social/individual aspects contributing to a safety incident/accident. A team of UAW worker trainers, with guidance provided by the University of Michigan, will use a reality-based small group activity to teach participants the use of this methodology in order to provide a deeper understanding of the determining factors contributing to an incident/ accident. The guidance provided by the University of Michigan to the UAW worker trainers is based on a “Communities of Practice” evaluation component of the UAW's NIEHS grant. Findings from the workshop delivered by the UAW worker trainers will be presented.
