Panel Presentation (for session 35859): Health inequities exist across cultures, socioeconomic groups, the lifespan, and geographic borders, yet these disparities present many opportunities for preventive action at all levels of health. Combined with the practical connections that exist between nursing research and clinical nursing practice in diverse populations, the nursing profession is uniquely positioned to impact health disparities and promote health equity. This presentation will: explore the impact of health inequities across cultures; the role of nursing and nursing science in ameliorating those inequalities; as well as methods for fostering health equity locally and globally. The building of interdisciplinary, international partnerships to cultivate collaborative research and clinical practice will be addressed as critical to the eventual elimination of health inequities. Examples of such efforts involving the health spectrum of wellness, acute, and chronic disease will be discussed. Also to be presented are the factors critical to the enhancement of international partnerships, including the need for strengthened nursing-workforce capacity building, community-based participatory research, and potential opportunities for international partnerships. Learning Objectives A.Explain how the nursing profession is uniquely positioned to impact health disparities. B.Identify three nursing science team roles that promote health equity. C.List three opportunities for team science to improve leading Public Health indicators.
