Felicia Batts, MPH , Research Program Manager, Golden Valley Health Center, Merced, CA
Patient self management is not an easy concept for the patient or the doctor. This video was created to educate and empower patients about the importance of mammography screening. Depicted within a community health center setting Maria agrees to go and see Dr. Sandoval after much urging from her family. Her Aunt Perla recently died of breast cancer. She has not been to the doctor in a long time and is afraid. Dr. Sandoval works in a community health center delivering primary care to underserved populations. All health center staff is courteous and professional by virtue of their strong communication skills; all of which contribute to a positive, trusting, and effective patient provider relationship. This culturally and linguistically appropriate video encourages patients to take control of their own health and health outcomes.
