271896 Benefits of Universal Gloving & Gowning Study: An AHRQ ACTION StudyTuesday, October 30, 2012
: 11:00 AM - 11:06 AM
The overall goal of this project is to determine the effectiveness of universal gloving and gowning procedures in reducing the acquisition of MRSA, VRE and HAI rates in ICUs. Specifically, this project will use a unique study called a cluster-randomized trial to compare the effect of wearing gloves and gowns for all patients in ICUs (intervention arm) versus the present Centers for Disease Control and Prevention standard of care, consisting of contact precautions only for patients with known antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
The goal of the BUGG video is to have clinical leaders and members of the multidisciplinary team in ICUs that have implemented Universal Gloving and Gowning (UGG) share, through a series of interviews, their experiences transitioning from standard practice of Contact Precautions to Universal Gloving and Gowning. The videos address key portions of the transition process that ICUs assigned to the intervention arm of the BUGG study can use to address staff concerns and support compliance.
