Both NCEH and ATSDR have a history of transforming the health of communities by working with partners to tackle challenges that have more than one health outcome, a key component of Health Impact Assessment (HIA). 15. That's why I am excited that NCEH's Healthy Community Design Initiative is at the forefront of promoting the use of HIA. Recently, HIA has been recognized as a tool for providing sound recommendations and solutions to proposed projects or policies. The National Prevention Strategy says that HIA can help achieve the key strategy of building healthy and safe community environments. In this talk, I will outline some key components of HIA and discuss specific examples from CDC.
