The video will show from a variety of perspectives that not only can children, youth, and young adults with serious emotional disorders be successfully served in the community in cost effective ways, but it will also show the important elements that are necessary to ensure outstanding outcomes for the youth and their families. Some of the essential elements, in addition to youth and family voice and choice at all levels, include strong partnerships among all the child-serving systems including the family advocacy organizations at the state and local levels, well trained community providers including peer support partners (youth support partners and family support partners), and strong care coordination with no more than 10 families on a caseload using the principles of the National Wraparound Initiative. It is the intent of this initiative to reduce the need for psychiatric residential placement by treating children effectively in the home and the community.
