Background: The Northern NJ Maternal/Child Health Consortium (NNJM/CHC) is a non-profit organization licensed by the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services to provide public health planning, professional and consumer education, and healthcare quality improvement. The NNJM/CHC's Black Infant Mortality Reduction Resource Center (BIMRRC) is proud to present an educational tool focusing on risk reduction strategies for the prevention of preterm birth and Black infant mortality in the DVD, A Special Delivery for Pregnant Black Women. Only a few health education DVDs that explain racial and ethnic disparities in birth outcomes are available to consumers. Also, the educational materials available do not address issues that impact Black women's reproductive health, are not culturally sensitive, and are not designed for low literacy patients. Methodology: The DVD, A Special Delivery for Pregnant Black Women, was specifically designed with the ultimate goal of improving birth outcomes among Black women. This DVD was created in collaboration with a local multimedia production studio, Profile Video, LLC. Physicians, midwifes, nurses, and other health professionals, as well as clients of our home visitation programs participated in the DVD after signing a public media consent form. 500 DVDs were distributed to pregnant Black women and 50 DVDs to prenatal care sites. Members of our home visitation programs, along with prenatal care providers assisted the Black Infant Mortality Reduction Resource Center (BIMRRC) staff and their distribution of the DVD. A survey was included with the DVD and women were asked to complete it. The feedback received was compiled and analyzed to evaluate the knowledge gained after viewing the DVD. Conclusion: All the Black women enrolled in our programs will receive education by viewing the DVD, A Special Delivery for Pregnant Black Women, and will increase their knowledge about strategies to decrease the risk of preterm birth and infant mortality.
