272860 Lessons learned: Core competencies in SRH from WHO and RCNMonday, October 29, 2012
: 10:30 AM - 10:50 AM
Currently in the U.S., there are no nationally agreed upon core competencies in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) for primary care. The lack of such SRH competencies impedes education and training in professional health care education programs. Both the World Health Organization and the Royal College of Nursing have developed core competencies in SRH for use in primary health care. The competencies guide the development of educational goals, objectives and outcomes in educational and training programs. With improved education and training in SRH, health care professionals can meet the needs of individual patient as well as improve progress towards meeting national health care goals. The international competencies will be analyzed from the perspective of applicability to the U. S. health care education and training models.
