A public health framework of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention offers an integrated approach for effectively addressing unintended pregnancy in the United States, and for educating health professionals about their role in providing care for unintended pregnancy prevention. The potential for this framework to advance unintended pregnancy prevention from policy to action will be discussed, with an emphasis on the role of health care providers, educators, and policy development.
