Development of dental public health curriculum including CDC data and surveillance resources
Tuesday, October 30, 2012
: 3:10 PM - 3:30 PM
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Oral Health encourages use of oral health surveillance data to inform public health and healthcare system decisions, and provides support through various oral health data resources and web-based data query tools. A current CDC DOH project is developing curriculum materials to inform dental and dental hygiene students about specific oral health data resources and enable use of these resources. This CDC project is contributing to a Health Resources and Services Administration funded AAPHD project to develop a comprehensive dental public health curriculum. This comprehensive curriculum is intended for implementation in dental and dental hygiene schools to cover major themes and address DPH competencies developed by project members. The CDC project curriculum materials will contribute to parts of the AAPHD curriculum focusing on evidence-based approaches to oral health care and decision making, and more specifically, to accessing population-based health data for oral health promotion, patient care, and quality improvement.
