Border areas between United States and Mexico share environmental, social, economic, cultural and epidemiological features with one another. It is the most traveled border in the world, with migrant populations back and forth. In recent years, migration from Mexico to the US side has been intensified due to social problems related to violence. Entire families had to move into US border cities and establish their permanent residence in this side of the border. Lifestyles, including immunizations, need to be reached. Immunizations programs have been a success in both countries and in the border area; initiatives like national infant immunization week, vaccination week in the Americas and health weeks emphasize the need for immunization coverage for all members of a family. This review analyses the coverage of main vaccines indifferent stages of life, the current situation of diseases they prevent and strategies implemented for each country and in conjunction in order to increase coverage.
