: 9:15 AM - 9:30 AM
The Global Network for Women's and Children's Health Research (GN) was established in 2001 by NICHD and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to expand scientific knowledge, develop sustainable research infrastructures, and improve health outcomes for pregnant women and young children in developing countries.
The ten sites of the GN located in south Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and south and central America conducted single site studies to test interventions aimed at the leading causes of maternal and neonatal mortality. The seven sites of the GN during the second phase have evolved a population based Maternal and Newborn Health Registry that provides the platform for implementing protocols across diverse settings to address common problems. This presentation will provide an overview of the research productivity of the GN sites and the impact on public health policy resulting from the GN studies.
