The Urban Networks to Increase Thriving Youth (UNITY) is a national initiative that builds support for effective, scalable, sustainable efforts to prevent violence before it occurs. Violence undermines health by causing injury, disability and premature death. Moreover, violence and fear of violence are major factors that worsen health disparities across populations. UNITY promotes an innovative public health approach that has informed initiatives in many U.S. towns and cities, and guided the efforts of local agencies to prevent violence affecting youth. This session will discuss the national UNITY initiative and community based strategies to prevent violence.
