This session is designed to help new and seasoned advocates understand the general ethics and legalities related to lobbying and advocacy. The presentation would address common advocacy and lobbying laws for employees in non-profit organizations and government agencies and the activities that public health advocates can participate in regardless of their employer and/or profession.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am a staff attorney and the contracts manager for ChangeLab Solutions. I manage all of our contracts with federal, state, and local governments, as well as grant agreements with foundations. I advise our staff on advocacy activities and complying with IRS regulations and federal contract laws related to advocacy and communications with government officials. Prior to my current employment, I practiced law in the areas of municipal government, nonprofit corporations, redevelopment and affordable housing. I agree to comply with the American Public Health Association Conflict of Interest and Commercial Support Guidelines, and to disclose to the participants any off-label or experimental uses of a commercial product or service discussed in my presentation.
