Launched in fall of 2011, “The Public's Health” is the nation's only blog/column in a major U.S. newspaper dedicated solely to public health issues. It appears both online and in print in The Philadelphia Inquirer. Yudell is a public health historian and ethicist at the Drexel University School of Public Health and Purtle is a doctoral candidate in Health Policy and Social Justice, also at Drexel. This presentation will provide a description of what happens when “public health people” enter the world of journalism, and the challenges, opportunities, and lessons learned therein. Strategies for establishing similar partnerships with local new media outlets will be discussed.
