Public health organizations (PHAs) across the world have been deeply affected by Governmental austerity regimes based on cutting public spending. Effects have included reductions in programs, loss of staff and, in some cases, closure. The effects of the global economic crisis on public health functioning will be explored using examples from several countries.

The rapid development of the global economic crisis requires PHAs to be able to adjust to the new circumstances or they may face disabling decline.
