The California Health in All Policies Task Force convenes 18 State agencies to advance strategies to improve the health and sustainability of California. Timing is an important component for advancing efforts that require public, political, and other support. Knowing how to take advantage of “windows of opportunity” can be a critical skill for creating and advancing a HiAP initiative.

This presentation will describe specific “windows of opportunity” that the California Health in All Policies Task Force capitalized on to advance their efforts, including administration support, ongoing and aligned efforts at partner organizations, and organizational changes. This presentation will also describe local and state examples of how strategic planning processes, emergency situations, and other policy windows have been used to support Health in All Policies approaches.

Learning Objectives:
1) Describe at least three types of “windows of opportunity” that can be used to support Health in All Policies approaches and policies.
