274900 Gospel of Healing: Black Churches Respond to HIV/AIDSTuesday, October 30, 2012
: 10:30 AM - 10:50 AM
See Faith Work™ is a multimedia presentation and panel discussion featuring video segments from the forthcoming documentary film, ‘The Gospel of Healing: Black Churches Respond to HIV/AIDS'. The film profiles five (5) models of faith-based HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care services targeting African-American communities. It explains how these groups were established, services they provide and how they engage health workers to address HIV/AIDS. The film also features powerful commentary from well-known HIV advocates, theologians and pastors addressing stigma and discrimination within faith communities and the role of the Black church in increasing access to health care. The panel discussion will go beyond HIV prevalence to explore current practices being implemented by faith based organizations to provide prevention and treatment to communities highly impacted by HIV/AIDS. Attendees will have an opportunity to “see” innovative models of faith-based partnerships working to eliminate HIV-related stigma, facilitate routine testing, provide treatment and care for PLWHA, and promote wellness in African American communities.
