This session discusses health disparities through multiple strategies. The presenters will explore adolescents’ perceptions of gang and gang-violence, Latino Day Laborers’ perception of cultural safety as applied to their experience in caring for their family’s health, and the relationship between diabetes risk and health literacy among African Americans and Latino women.
Session Objectives: After the session, participants will be able to describe non-gang members' perceptions of gangs and gang violence, identify community-based strategies for enhancing cultural safety in health care for Latino Day laborer families, and identify culture specific interventions to prevent diabetes risk.
