4195.0 Skin Cancer Prevention Across the Lifespan

Tuesday, October 30, 2012: 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Oral
The purpose of this symposium is to detail UV-exposure experiences (both outdoor and artificial) and skin cancer prevention efforts targeting individuals across the life span. We will begin with a presentation assessing the efficacy of an evidence-based sun safety program among parents and children attending skiing/snowboard schools in 68 ski areas. Next, we will present work describing indoor tanning among early and late adolescents, with a focus on innovative intervention strategies for teens. We will then provide an in-depth analysis of indoor tanning website content. Fourth, we will present data on skin cancer risk behaviors among physically active adults, as compared to sedentary adults. To conclude, we will present an exploration of the ABC (addressing behavioral change) method of physician-patient communication, meant to increase sun protective behaviors among adults.
Session Objectives: Participants will be able to discuss in detail UV-exposure experiences (both outdoor and artificial) and skin cancer prevention efforts targeting individuals across the life span.
