Participants attending this session will gain a greater understanding of the diabetes burden in Chicago,the health inequalities in Argentina, the social implications of DSM-IV substance use disorders and and how race/ethnicity and income or gender play a role in determining health outcomes.
Session Objectives: Explain the complex roles of race/ethnicity, income, and location in determining diabetes burden in Chicago. Describe the epidemiological distribution of substance use disorders among different population groups based on race, gender, and type of substance. Discuss the public health and social implications of racial/ethnic disparities in DSM-IV substance use disorders.
