4146.0 Health Promotion for Adolescent At-Risk Populations

This session will explore strategies to address health promotion for at risk adolescents. Presenters will address the public health needs of teen mothers, will examine how two decades of family caregiving practices shaped teen mothers' long-term outcomes, will evaluate the services provided to high risk adolescents, and will analyze an intervention to reduce risky behaviors and promote wellness in teenagers.
Session Objectives: After the session, participants will be able to analyze qualitative findings related to the transition to motherhood experience in pregnant adolescents, describe features of adversarial family caregiving and their impact on teen mothers' outcomes, describe current PHN interventions with pregnant and parenting adolescent, and describe an evidence-based intervention which fosters effective parent communication and positive peer relationships to reduce risky behaviors and promote wellness in teenagers.
