Single-payer, historically supported by the Medical Care Section as the best option for achieving universal health care, has been elected in several states. This session compares single-payer plans in California, Hawaii, New York, and Vermont. It notes controversies, compromises, and consequent bills that embrace single-payer healthcare plans.
Session Objectives: Presenters will discuss key features of single-payer plans in California, Hawaii, Vermont, and one proposed in New York State. They will describe the process and participation by groups in designing and passing legislation.
