Men's Health Caucus

MEN’S HEALTH CAUCUS
The Men’s Health Caucus is seeking abstracts on a wide range of topics related to men’s health for presentation at the APHA annual meeting to be held in Boston, MA, on November 2 - November 6, 2013. This year we will continue to expand the focus of presentations to include new topic areas. Topics of particular interest to the Men’s Health Caucus include, but are not limited to:
  • Access to healthcare
  • Aging males
  • Cancers
  • Cardiovascular health in men
  • Communicating to men about health
  • Community health initiatives towards males
  • Disparities in men's health (gender, racial, sexual, etc)
  • Faith based programs for men's health outreach
  • Fatherhood & family
  • Global men's health
  • Health messaging to men
  • International men's health movement
  • Male reproductive health
  • Masculinity
  • Men's health core competencies and curricula
  • Men's health policies
  • Mental health and well-being (depression, anxiety, stress, suicide, etc.)
  • Men’s health and healthcare reform implementation
  • Military/veteran health and well-being
  • Public health & men's health policies
  • Role of women and family in men's health
  • Sexuality and sexual health
  • Sports and men's health
  • Violence against men
  • Workplace safety
  • Workplace wellness & employer initiatives
Abstracts must be submitted by the above deadline date and are limited to 250 words. Please contact our Program Planner, Ana Fadich by email (HealthyFamilies@menshealthnetwork.org) if you have questions about the topic areas or abstracts. Abstract review and presentation type

Abstracts are reviewed anonymously and rated according to the following criteria:
  1. important issue or problem addressed,
  2. innovative approach or perspective,
  3. sound methods or arguments,
  4. substantive findings or recommendations, and
  5. compelling to a broad audience.

    Those whose abstracts are accepted for presentation will be asked either to give 15-minute oral presentations or to present their work in an hour-long poster session
Presentation requirements
  • All presenters must be individual members of APHA in order to present.
  • All presenters are strongly encouraged to join the Men’s Health Caucus (www.menshealthcaucus.net).
  • All presenters must register for the meeting.
Abstracts cannot be presented or published in any journal prior to the APHA Annual Meeting

Continuing Education Credit

APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses, health educators and those certified in public health at its annual meeting. Please complete all required information when submitting an abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to keep their licenses and credentials. For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter must provide:
    1. an abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names.
    2. a signed Conflict of Interest (Disclosure) form with a relevant Qualification Statement. See an example of an acceptable Qualification Statement on the online Disclosure form.
    3. at least one measurable objective (DO NOT USE "understand" or "to learn" as objectives. They are not measurable). Examples of acceptable measurable action words:
 Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define, or List
