The  Oral Health Section invites the submission of abstracts for individual paper presentations and poster sessions for the 2013 Annual Meeting. The 141st Annual Meeting & Exposition will be held from November 2-6, 2013 in Boston, Massachusetts. The theme of this meeting is Think Global, Act Local: Best Practices Around the World.  Abstracts related to the annual theme are welcomed, also abstracts pertinent to current topics in dental public health.
  • Affordable care act and oral health
  • Dental workforce issues and infrastructure
  • Effective preventive and oral health promotion programs: Community water fluoridation and other community approaches
  • Epidemiology of oral diseases and disparities
  • Global health and oral health
  • HIV, AIDS and oral health (Organized Jointly with HIV/AIDS Section)
  • Health communications, oral health literacy and social media
  • Integrated medical, oral health and vision care delivery models (Organized Jointly with Vision Care Section)
  • Maternal, child health and oral health (Organized Jointly with Maternal and Child Section)
  • Oral health needs among special populations
Joint sessions co-sponsored with other sections, special interest groups, and caucuses are encouraged.  Abstracts will be selected through a rated peer-review process according to significance, timeliness, and overall quality. Please note: • Presenters must be Individual members of APHA, and register for the meeting in order to present. • Authors must provide complete and accurate contact information to be notified of abstract status.• Abstracts submitted and accepted for the APHA Annual Meeting may not be presented at any other meeting or published in any journal prior to Wednesday, November 6, 2013.• Abstracts should be no more than 250 words.

New! Film Festival: APHA Looking for Closed Captioned Videos for the 2013 Public Health Film Festival
APHA encourages film/video submitters to caption their videos so that deaf and hearing impaired registrants can fully participate in the Film Festival. While all public health related films are welcome, special consideration will be given to films that are captioned or will be captioned prior to the Annual Meeting.

 Technology-based/Technology-dependent Presentations: If your presentation is dependent on additional technology (i.e., internet, video projection) do not submit to a Section, SPIG, Caucus or Forum. Submit your presentation to the Health Informatics Information Technology Theater (HIIT) Center. The HIIT Center is an environment for live presentations of information and computer technology applications for public health. The meeting room is equipped with Internet access, and theater-quality video projection and stereo audio. For more information and detailed requirements click on the program below. Continuing Education Credit: APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses, health educators and those certified in public health at its annual meeting. The Oral Health Section also values the ability to provide ADA-CERP recognized continuing education credit to oral health professionals for participation in sessions developed by the Oral Health Section. ADA-CERP credits are provided through a joint sponsorship agreement with the American Dental Association. Please complete all required information when submitting an abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to keep their licenses and credentials. For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter must provide: 1) An abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names 2) At least one MEASURABLE objective (DO NOT USE understand or to learn as objectives, they are not measurable). Examples of Acceptable Measurable Action Words: Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define or List. 3) A signed Conflict of Interest (Disclosure) form with a relevant Qualification Statement.
